You can’t always get what you want

David Oatney says local Democrats can’t figure out what it is they want when it comes to appointing new Knox County officials:

For transparency before they were against it

Just when people here in East Tennessee thought the flawed appointment process of January 31 for Knox County’s vacant term-limited offices had been remedied by the ruling of Chancellor Daryl Fansler and the decision of the Knox County Commission to wait until after the County Primary on February 5th to appoint new officeholders (to allow for maximum transparency), some of the loudest whiners over the flaws in the original process now want the Knox County Commission to appoint new officeholders immediately.

I rarely agree with anything Oatney says but I agree with the questions he raises about the motives of Don Daughterty. The only thing I can imagine is that he wants the commission to appoint the republican bad boys (Tramel, Cate, Bolus) so that his Dem candidates can defeat them in August. That seems like a risky gamble. It would have been much wiser to have a slate of good appointees which would serve the county much better than a risky political ploy. I did not vote for Daughterty for Knox Co. Dem Chair and I wish there were a way to remove him before he does more damage to the party. He has already been extremely divisive amongst party regulars.
