So what do you plan to tell your ‘tween daughter about 16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears’ just-announced pregnancy? My 12-year-old daughter and I talked about it this morning. SHe’s a fan of Spears’ show, “Zoey 101,” and she had a lot of questions.
I found it challenging to balance making it clear that getting pregnant at 16 is a Very Bad Idea with my belief that we need to teach kids compassion and empathy for people who find themselves in difficult circumstances.
There’s going to be a lot of discussion today about this hot celeb gossip and I’ll try to keep a round up going between wrapping gifts and running errands (I am actually on vacation from the newsroom this week and working from home).

Poor mama Spears, both her daughter acting out!
Hard driving adult like careers and pressures seem to have her daughters falling apart.
Meeting at church does not stop teenagers from having sex!
Adults seem to think abstinence works, studies say NO, abstinence education only makes girls pregnant!
Birth control education works!
Um, I think it had more to do with LIVING with her boyfriend than going to the same church. Mama Spears pimped her daughter’s personal life out to a tabloid for big money.
