More info on victim in Hooters murder

Apparently the Michigan man killed at the Knoxville Hooters restaurant was a father of eight, and he was in town to find new cars for his demolition derby hobby:

Sherman leaves behind a wife, Tony, and eight children - ranging in age from seven to 16 - from a blended family.

Carla Sontag, Sherman’s sister, said her brother was in Tennessee to find a car to do what he loved - racing demolition derby cars. It was customary for Sherman and his friend to go to Tennessee this time of year to find a car for the next year’s racing season. They went to Tennessee, she said, because cars from that area have less rust and are stronger than those in Michigan.

Sherman had been racing demolition derbies for about 10 years.

“Even if he’s going to run you over in the derby, he would come over (afterward) and help you work on your car,” Sontag said.

Justin Sherman, 15, said he and his dad worked on cars together. Next year was going to be the first year the Carsonville-Port Sanilac High School junior competed in derbies against his father.

His father was competitive but a good sport, Justin said, and would congratulate people after they won.

“He was a great dad,” he said.

Very, very sad.
