Free medical, dental and vision care this weekend

Please help spread the word that this Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 5 and 6, at the Jacobs Building (Knoxville), Remote Area Medical will offer many health services for the uninsured, underinsured, unemployed and those who cannot afford to pay.

Registration will begin at 6 a.m. on Saturday. Daily services will be on a first come, first served basis.

The RAM Health Expedition is a tobacco-free event.

Over 50 dentists and other health care professionals will be volunteering their time this weekend. Some will be coming as far away as Colorado to provide the following free health care services for East Tennessean adults and children:

THE DOCTOR IS FREE

Dental work (cleanings, fillings and extractions)

Vision– (complete eye exams and prescription glasses. Note: RAM cannot make glasses for everyone)

Medical services–specialists exams and consults on podiatry, flu shots, diabetes screening and education, skin care, skin rashes and screening for skin cancer

Women’s health–mammographs, Pap smears and breast exams.

The Clinic will take place at the Jacobs Building, 3301 E MagnoliaAve. next to the Knoxville Zoo.

The Health Expedition will receive national media attention by the CBS show, “60 Minutes.”

Voluntering: If you’d like to help with registration, training will be offered at 5 p.m.on Friday, Jan. 4, at the Jacobs Building. Training will take 15 minutes. It willalso be offered on 5:30 a.m. on Saturday before the doors open at 6. a.m.. Questions about volunteering?
