We got the scoop straight from Netflix on the rumors of a new distribution center in Knoxville:

According to Steve Swayze with Netflix Corporate Communications, no manned distribution center is planned for Knoxville. Tennessee’s Netflix distribution hub will remain in Memphis.

  1. Lame.

So it’s still going to take forever to get a movie from Georgia. It seems like a drop center would only help if you lived near enough to use it instead of your mailbox - hardly convenient.

I had netflix for a while in 2002-03 and then again in 2005.

The turn around time increased significantly from the first time to the second time. I don’t know whether it was the fault of usps or netflix, but sometimes it was double.

Well, all I know is the return envelopes now got to a Knoxville address (don’t remember what it was before, but it wasn’t Knoxville I’m pretty sure) and it’s been confirmed by multiple sources that turn-around has gone from 2-3 days to 1 day both directions. And that’s been the case twice for me so far.

  4. Mine still say Duluth, GA.

I think I understand now - there’s not a distribution center here, but merely a mail hub that expedites the return/delivery communication process. I’m assuming whoever picks up all the disks here at the address location, confirms the correct return with the distribution center in Memphis or Duluth or wherever, and they go ahead and send out the next disk in your queue. Works out just about the same, really, unless there are weather delays in getting from there to here.

    Regardless, very nice :)
