UT-Knoxville faculty overpaid?

They are, say their colleagues at UT Chattanooga, where on average, professors make $20,500 less than their Knoxville counterparts.

Faculty and alumni at University of Tennessee-Chattanooga are asking “What about us?” as the UT-Knoxville campus pushes to gain students and get more funds during the legislative session that begins Tuesday.

In a report issued by a committee within the UTC Faculty Senate, members contend the school has fallen to second-tier status since entering a merger agreement with UT-Knoxville in 1969.

But UT President Petersen isn’t buying it:

“I don’t see what resolution can come from that,” Petersen said. “It’s a document that was written in 1969, and I think it’s probably not very relevant today in terms of what the climate is.”
