Exhibit A: why McCain might have a shot

The guy has a way of getting positive reviews from even the most outspoken liberals, folks who normally don’t have any time for Republican presidential frontrunners.

Says Sean Braisted:

The Sane McCain

I was listening to a speech by John McCain in Michigan and was struck by two things. One, he’s the sanest (or perhaps just the most honest) person in the Republican party. Now, of course, that doesn’t say much, because I’m comparing him to other Republicans, but when he feels comfortable going to Michigan and saying that he believes climate change is real and we ought to do something about it…it really shows a depth of character found lacking in some of the other people *cough*Mitt*cough*.

The other thing he talked about was the need to improve community colleges and help fund job transitioning programs. I tend to agree with his position that some manufacturing jobs are going to leave in a global economy, and there is really nothing we can do about that without further harming the economy. However, we should provide training for people who work in an obsolete industry, so that they can still earn a decent wage.
