More on the Overbey-Finney match-up

Thoughts on what the race might mean from Volunteer Voters:

This will surely be a primary to watch. There has been a growing tension in the Republican Party between the old school, Republican-since-the-Civil War, East Tennessee-style GOP and the new breed of conservative Republican who is more ideologically in tune with national movement conservatism and the Southern conservatism that developed after the Civil Rights movement of the sixties. This about more than just one senate seat, this is a pitch battle in a Republican Civil War.

With the state Senate divided evenly at 16-16-1 both parties are doing their due diligence to gain a working majority in the legislature. For the Republicans, to have one of their more stalwart members of the senate’s conservative wing taken on by a member of the other chamber who voted for a Democratic Speaker is not a good development.

Senator Finney deserves an A+ for LISTENING, he is very good at that. But I would give him a D- when it comes to actually getting anything concrete accomplished. He is just soooo Conservative.
