Folks in the 2nd District received a very slick and unusually negative (for a local primary) mailing this week from the Cortney Piper campaign accusing Piper’s opponent in the Democratic primary, Amy Broyles of essentially single-handedly shutting down the Knoxville Center voting location by campaigning there.
A few quotes from the mailer:
How can Amy Broyles be trusted in office when she has already let down the Voters of the 2nd District?
Amy Broyles says “government belongs to the people” but her actions caused an Early Vote location to be shut down in Knoxville Center Mall (formerly East Towne).
Knox County Voters Were Disenfranchised Due to Amy Broyles’ Actions!
UPDATE: Randy Neal has a copy of the flyer you can look at online

correction: Piper campaign goes negative.
Haven’t heard anything negative out of the Broyles campaign. Disenfranchisement is a serious charge. Not even close to the truth. May even be libelous.
This does not bode well for the Piper campaign. They must be getting worried about getting enough votes and decided to send out this disgusting piece of trash. I gave Cortney the benefit of the doubt, but after this, I really wonder about her character and convictions. To “go negative” in such a nasty way is very telling about a candidate.
