UT’s Lawsuit Emeritus

His lawsuit is lasting longer than his tenure as UT president:

A state official has refused to dismiss former University of Tennessee President John Shumaker’s lawsuit against the state, apparently prompting a fresh round of negotiations that could lead to a financial settlement.

Gov. Phil Bredesen says that, if the parties agree on a payment to Shumaker that will resolve the matter, he would be willing to approve it.

Tennessee Claims Commissioner William O. Shults last month rejected a state motion to dismiss Shumaker’s lawsuit, which contends the state and the UT Foundation owe him at least $423,000 in severance benefits.
