It looks like Stacey Campfield has a primary challenger:
Ron Leadbetter, associate general counsel at the University of Tennessee, has picked up a petition to run against fellow Republican Rep. Stacey Campfield for the state House’s 18th District seat in the Aug. 7 state primary.
“I’m thinking strongly in that direction. I will be making a decision by the end of the month. I want to make sure this is public-service oriented and not just something I’m doing,” Leadbetter said.
He will retire from his UT position if he runs, he said.
“Anybody who’s been ’round here would be a fool to run and have a state position. Even if I campaigned in the evening, someone would be pointing it out as a potential conflict of interest,” he said.
Leadbetter, 60, has been at UT for 35 years. In 2000, he filed two lawsuits against UT and then-President J. Wade Gilley alleging that Gilley discriminated against white men by hiring and promoting less-qualified women and minorities. Leadbetter lost one lawsuit against Gilley and withdrew one against the university.
Campfield said he plans to seek re-election, although he has not yet picked up a petition. The deadline for candidates to qualify is April 3.
“I welcome competition. It makes us stronger. May the better ideas win,” he said.

How about “May the sane candidate win?”
