Ken Whitehouse with the breaker:
NashvillePost.com has learned that former Knox County Clerk William M. “Mike” Padgett will enter the Democratic primary.
Padgett was first elected to the Knox County School Board in 1984 then as Knox County Clerk in 1986, a position he held for over 20 years. He was forced to leave that office last year when the Tennessee Supreme Court ruled that a term limits law passed by voters in Knox County was constitutional, a verdict that vacated most elected positions in the county.
Before being term-limited out of office, Padgett was consistently the top vote getter in the county, but it is obviously uncertain how that would translate in a statewide election.
Padgett joins Kenneth Eaton and Chris Lugo as contenders for the Democratic nod. Former Democratic Party Chair Bob Tuke has yet to make a final decision on a race.

i was very happy to see this. I’ve always thought highly of Mr. Padgett.
