Julya Johnson is baby blogging

WBIR’s meteorologist, and my friend Julya Johnson has launched a blog chronicling her second pregnancy:

My husband and I have chosen several things that are a bit unconventional this time, and I would love to share that journey with you. First, we decided not to find out the gender of the baby at our 20 week ultrasound. I have been assured by many folks in the older generation that the baby’s gender is one of the most wonderful surprises in this world. I want to know what that is like, so we are following their lead. That said, I find it so tempting to buy little girl outfits because they are so super cute!

The other unconventional route we are taking in this journey is the goal of a medication free water birth using a program called Hypnobabies. I have gotten all kinds of responses when I share this decision ranging from “are you crazy?” to “way to go!” to “tell me more!” Mostly, friends and family seem to think I have lost my mind …he he!

This is a new journey for me since the first go around I had a very traditional hospital birth with an epidural. That experience was nice, but I look forward to being free to move, eat and drink during labor this time. Also, birth is such a spiritual and life-changing event, and I can’t think of a more peaceful way to come into the world than a water birth.
