A bright, shiny new Metro Pulse

As a longtime, reader and fan, I’ve wondered for a while why Metro Pulse’s web site doesn’t reflect the publication very well. No interactivity. No blogs. Very little change except on Thursdays. I figured there would be some positive changes coming with Coury Turczyn recently taking on the lead editorial role (Coury has a long history of great interactive work, ranging from his own PopCultMag to editorial at HGTV.com), but I hadn’t seen anything happening.

So I was excited to read today that indeed, big changes are coming for MetroPulse.com.:

Knoxville’s alternative weekly Metro Pulse will debut a complete redesign of its Web site in April.

A new component of its online presence will be a brand-new video gallery, curated by Knoxville Films, that will showcase the work of area filmmakers.

The collaboration between Metro Pulse and Knoxville Films will eventually expand to a regional and online film festival. The submissions will be judged by online viewers of the co-hosted gallery in a similar fashion to American Idol.

The new video gallery will be just one of many new components of Metro Pulse’s updated Web site. It will have a strong focus on original online content, bloggers and an overall increased community involvement in the site.

  1. The redesign is largely due to Scripps’ purchase of Metro Pulsea few months ago. The new site will be managed using the Ellington CMS, which drives all of Scripps’ newspaper Web sites.

It’s truly one of the best content management systems on the market!

  2. Dave said,

Maybe if they would produce a mobile version like the Chattanooga Pulse does, I would actually read it.
