Are we seeing a resurgence of the Teddy Roosevelt Republican?
Has anyone else noticed more Republicans and conservatives getting behind environmental issues these days?
I have.
And here’s another example today, from Tennessee Ticket:
Conservatives against mountaintop removal
Yes, that’s right. If you think about it, a stance such as John Brown’s puts the “conserve” in “conservative.”
There are responsible, and sustainable, ways to remove the valuables from under [...]
Right-wing bloggers wookin’ pa nub
Via Dr. Helen, I ran across this run-down of self-proclaimed right wing female bloggers describing their likes and dislikes in men they date (photos included!):
Have you dated liberals before? If so, any difference you can tell between liberal and conservative guys?
I tend not to date liberals, for a reason. Politics is so important to what [...]

Bob Tuke: grifter candidate?
Over at The Nashville Scene, Jeff Woods makes the extremely cynical case that Bob Tuke’s nascent Senate campaign is really just a hustle:
I’ve never been a big fan of Lamar Alexander, and I’m all for competitive elections. But it’s hard to resist the temptation to see Bob Tuke’s campaign as a scam. Here’s a guy [...]
Food stamp use hits record high
Apparently food stamp use among Americans is at its highest level since the program began in the 1960s. In fact, one in eight Michigan residents now receives food stamps:
The number of recipients, who must have near-poverty incomes to qualify for benefits averaging $100 a month per family member, has fluctuated over the years along [...]

“We’ll see what happens to your plan. It makes sense, so chances are nothing will come of it.”
-Jon Stewart Chris Wallace to Governor Phil Bredesen on Fox News Sunday at the conclusion of an interview about Bredesen’s proposal for a Democratic Superdelegate Primary.

But what about McCain’s preachers?
According to this Buffalo alt.weekly piece, McCain’s “spiritual advisers” are as on-the-fringe as Obama’s Rev. Wright:
First there’s Pastor John Hagee, who runs an arena-sized megachurch in San Antonio, Texas. Hagee preaches that Muslims—that’s all Muslims—have a “scriptural mandate” to kill Christians and Jews. But don’t worry. America, according to Hagee, is on top of this [...]
Because there just aren’t enough lobbyists in Tennessee…
Via The Nashvilel Post:
Bob Davis Jr., former chairman of the Tennessee Republican Party and senior advisor to Senator Fred Thompson’s 2008 presidential run, has opened a government relations firm in Nashville.
The company, RJD Group, will primarily focus on government relations, political consulting and public affairs. Davis, a 25-year veteran of national and state politics, was [...]

David Oatney says he is impressed with Obama’s Pennsylvania strategy:
Everyone knows that he stands as a long-shot in Pennsylvania, but with 23 days to go there until the Primary, he doesn’t need to win to make it impossible for Hillary Clinton, he only needs to race her close. Even a 15-point spread would keep Obama [...]

Knox County Commissioner Victoria DeFreese has called a press conference for Monday afternoon to release a letter she says Mayor Ragsdale’s office sent her late last week concerning an “open records request.” When pressed. Commissioner DeFreese said that was all she was willing to say [...]
Stuff White Trash People Like
You’ve likely seen the very popular blog “Stuff White People Like.” Now there’s “Stuff White Trash People Like.”
The pit bull is to white trash people as the chocolate lab is to white people. In fact, pit bulls can be viewed as the official mascot of White Trash Nation.
The adoption of one’s first pit bull puppy [...]
Conspiracy theories
Brian Hornback’s blog seems to have moved on from continually knocling Knox County School Board member Karen Carson to continually knocking various members of the Haslam family for their alleged iron-fisted grip on all local government and media.

A blogger’s endorsement for Tuke
Sharon Cobb says Bob Tuke is her man for Senate:
While Bob Tuke is known in Tennessee, I want my readers around the country to know about Bob, too.
I first met Bob when he was chair of the Democratic Party for Tennessee. He served the party well, just as he served his country well.
Bob is [...]
Volunteer Voters redirect
Well, it looks like WKRN in Nashville has now switched the name domain so that when you type in the URL for now-defunct Volunteer Voters, you are taken to the mostly defunct (or at least a shadow of what it was under Britney Gilbert’s guidance) Nashville Is Talking.
I am really looking forward to seeing A.C. [...]
She agrees with Bill Hobbs
A few weeks ago, Bill Hobbs blogged his opinion on the idea of Harvard’s plan to segregate gym time by gender, in order to accomodate Muslim women’s desire for complete separation from men. Today, via Instapundit, I ran across this essay on the same topic. The author agrees with Hobbs on this one (and so [...]

Uber-conservative Romney supporter goes for Obama

Howard Dean wants Hillary and Obama to lay off the personal attacks
Check out this very interesting interview Dean did this morning, in which he essentially says Clinton and Obama need to quit squabbling for the good of the party and the country.

Liquored up
Now how come no one’s ever offered me a gig like this:
Naughty librarian or host of a show for Knoxville Films and the Metro Pulse? Maybe both. Lauren Lazarus will be seeking out the best bars in Knoxville for this hysterical new show.
