Blogging gone berserk

Shame on you, Thaddeus Matthews.

There is no possible justification for what this Tennessee blogger has done.

As public attention to the Lester Street killings remained intense today, blogger Thaddeus Matthews posted three postmortem photographs of one of the victims, 22-year-old Shindri “Moosey” Roberson.

The photographs show Roberson’s face, eyes open, and what appear to be three gunshot wounds to her legs.

I’m all for muckraking, truth-telling and aggressive reporting - on blogs and in the traditional press - but publishing these apparently illegally obtained photos of a murdered woman serves no purpose but your own need for attention.

Everyone who has been following this story - and particularly the folks in Memphis - are already all too aware of the excessive brutality of this terrible crime. Your decision to publish photos of one of the victim’s faces after death offers absolutely nothing important to the mission of solving the crime; all it does it hurt the already grieving family and offer visual fodder for the mentally unwell among us who enjoy these sorts of images.

Yow owe the family and the community an apology.
