Stacey Campfield, William Wilberforce & Inside Tennessee

Rep. Campfield states his case in today’s Knoxville News Sentinel:

Liberals claim respect for the views of others, but I fail to see that materialize for conservative ideas.

A valued friend once told me, “Stacey, good policy is good politics.” I offer legislation that benefits the rights of families - not the state, legislation that upholds the life of the unborn, the rights of citizens to protect themselves, the rights of property owners and the free market.

I offer and support legislation for lower taxes on food, reducing costs on families and employers. I always try to vote for or offer legislation based on my belief not only in individual responsibility but individual ingenuity, that less government is better for a body of people.

I understand that many of my views and goals are not in line with the majority of the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives in Tennessee, and as such, they may be not be popular or successful.

But that is no reason to cease to push for these ideas. My bills are conservative bills, and most are born of conversations and discussions that I’ve had with my constituents.

It’s not posturing to represent my district. It’s not posturing because liberals are unwilling to address the points of many bills not just offered by me but other fine legislators across the state. Is it posturing if the opposition offers a good piece of legislation, and I support it, as I have on many occasions?

History often is said to be a road map to the future. Over the summer, I watched the wonderful movie “Amazing Grace.”

The British reformer and statesmen William Wilberforce fought for years for the policies he knew were right. He didn’t give up, despite defeat after legislative defeat.

And eventually the good policy he offered became good politics.

And Rep. Campfield will also be one of our guests this week on WBIR’s Inside Tenessee, Sunday, March 9 at 9:30 am on Channel 10.

As one of the producers for the show, I very much appreciate the fact that Rep. Campfield is always willing to make time to come on the show and talk about his positions on various issues, even when he’s taking some heat for his views. This is in contrast to some local politicians, who generally decline to appear on the show - week after week - no matter how many times I ask them to appear.
