Apparently, Knoxville blogs are sorta…well…ugly

Over at Knoxify, they’re not pointing any fingers, but:

The Knoxville blog network is one of the tightest virtual networks I’ve come into contact with. This circle of bloggers is filled with talented, comical and friendly people from a myriad of backgrounds.

One thing that is lacking across the community is good blog design. In my opinion, content reigns supreme but having a blog-front that’s easy on the eyes is a major bonus.

Okay, okay…I know Knoxville Talks could use a few aesthetic tweaks (although I am really happy with the header). So here’s my official shout-out to those of you who understand working in Word Press templates better than I do: I coul really use a little guidance on making some color changes to the font(s) and background. I can’t quite figure out how to do it. So if you want to be of assistance, e-mail me: kagranju@gmail.com

PS: My votes for best-designed/most attractive local blogs are:

-Patrick Beeson
-The Sunsphere is Not a Wigshop
-Girl Journalist
-Knox Views
-Camera Shy
-Mama Tried
-Jack Lail

    Katie,

First off, thanks for the link and also, thanks for understanding our post with a grain of salt.

Knoxify isn’t saying that all blogs are ugly and we certainly aren’t pointing a finger at KnoxvilleTalks. The premise for the post is based primarily around the idea that most Knoxville blogs struggle with layout and overall design. Even though there is a large number that comprises the local blogging community, we have to realize that the majority still might not grasp the concept of a “blog”. Thus, it’s important that your content has a user friendly place to sit once it’s been published.

I would encourage everyone to think about their reader base and how they can make their blog more user friendly with a better design and interface.

  2. Thanks Katie!

I’ve been hand-rolling my templates since 2005, when I decided to get serious about Web design and blogging.

That said, there are so many well-designed “themes” for WordPress nowadays (and Movable Type too). It should be easy for any blogger to pick something nice, and put in a few tweaks for themselves.

The biggest hurdle for most folks is learning the CSS required to modify the existing theme. If you have any specific problems you want to solve in this area, shoot me a message and I can help you out.

Thanks from me, too. I’ve been very happy with the current theme, especially with Bos around to help me tweak it!

  5. Hey - feel free to pick a better color!

    :-)
