“Jamie Woodson’s no Jimmy Kyle Davis”

That’s Betty Bean’s comment in response to political buzz (via Randy Neal) suggesting Knox County Attorney General Randy Nichols (Democrat) might challenge State Sen. Jamie Woodson (Republican).

Bean opines:

Woodson is a juggernaut and would mortally whip his butt. Nichols got appointed AG and was appointed to the bench before that. He’s never had a fight like this one would be. Jamie Woodson’s no Jimmy Kyle Davis.

She goes on to say:

….surely you haven’t forgotten her race against primary opponent Billy Stokes in 2004?

Billy is a well-liked guy who had a lot of support from party brass, including the then-powerful Mike Ragsdale.

I’ll refresh your memory as to how that race went down — she stomped a mudhole in him.

Tennessee Senate-6th-R
Jamie HAGOOD Republican 12,657 71.33%
Billy J. STOKES Republican 5,087 28.67

And before that, she had several contested races for the state House. The big boys even gerrymandered her district into Jefferson County and got a popular football coach to run against her to try and rid themselves of her.

She stomped a mudhole in him, too.

I’ve never been counted among her supporters, but the fact is she’s a smart campaigner and is considered a rising star in Nashville. This is a safe Republican district and the notion that Randy Nichols can beat her is about as realistic as thinking that Lamar’s going to lose to a Democrat.

Won’t happen.
