A Knoxville mystery in the new National Enquirer
Wow, it’s been a big month for Tennesseans. Twice now, our fellow Vols have ended up in the pages of the National Enquirer (as an aside, my father used to do some freelancing for the National Enquirer. He once penned an article for them titled - I kid you not - “Perry Como tells you how to relax.” But I digress…)
First, TNGOP spokesman and conservative blogger Bill Hobbs was quoted in the Enquirer’s shocking expose on Barack Obama. Today, I notice that Knoxville’s own Raynella Dossett Leath is the subject of a full-length feature on page 33.
Titled “Two Dead Husbands Make Wife #1 Suspect,” the article features photos of a weeping Mrs. Leath, as well as pictures of Knoxville attorney James A.H. Bell, and deceased District Attorney Ed Dossett.
The article begins in dramatic fashion:
“‘Till death do us part.’ Twice Raynella Leath took those marriage vows - and after each wedding, death came much sooner than expected for her husbands.
Police say she cleverly staged husband #1’s death to make it look like an accident - and then made husband #2’s death appear to be a suicide, investigators say.”
The piece goes on to lay out the lurid details of the case, quoting former prosecutor Richard Jolley. It ends with Raynella Leath and David Leath’s daughter accusing one another of Leath’s murder.
So now that James A.H. Bell is in the National Enquirer, does that make him the NEW “Appalachian Johnny Cochran,” as an episode of City Confidential once famously christened his fellow Knoxville attorney, Greg Isaacs?
