Newsflash: Men prefer attractive women as spouses!

Kidding aside, this study is sort of interesting. Both men and women are apparently happier in their marriages when the woman is objectively more attractive than her spouse. Conjecture here in the newsroom is that maybe women are less worried about their men leaving when wives have the upper hand in the looks department, while plain-looking men with good-looking wives are just happy to have gotten that lucky.

I’m confused. In this post, attractiveness is news of the obvious. But in the post below you don’t get the appeal of Top Cuts?

  2. No, I get the appeal of attractiveness. I get the appeal of dating someone attractive, or even of marrying someone you find attractive. But I find the idea of paying someone attractive to pay attention to you sort of sad. I think it’s sad when a man feels he has to PAY an attractive woman to show him some physical attention.

Well, that’s different from ‘not getting it’, which you asserted. That is, instead, ‘not approving of’ or ‘looking down upon’ or ‘passing judgment on’. I’m certain they have no issue with that since you’re not their target demographic. I am. My thoughts are that:

A man is not paying for attention. He’s paying for entertainment. A man doesn’t go to Hooter’s for the overpriced beer and crappy wings. He goes to Hooter’s to ogle women in skimpy clothes. I’m not sure why that’s ’sad’, exactly. It’s not exactly a secret of the marketing world that half-naked women are effective at selling stuff.

Full disclosure: i don’t go to hooters.

  4. True, I am not their demographic, but I feel pretty sure that a large part of the appeal of places like this is NOT just that guys like to ogle attractive women, but that guys who are socially inept and have unsatisfying personal lives are paying to have an attractive woman show them some attention.

Ever been to Hooters or a nudy bar? You’ll find it’s clientèle is largely not socially inept.

    Your misandry is showing.

Full disclosure: i’ve not been to a nudy bar in about a decade.

  6. It doesn’t make me a misandrist to suggest that the idea of men paying to have attractive, very young women in underwear do things like cut their hair and shine their shoes is creepy.

  7. SayUncle said,

I did not say you were a misandrist. I said your misandry was showing. That’s different. My point was you stereotyped a group of men. I don’t really have an issue with that because if we didn’t stereotype men, there’d be no such thing as sit-coms.

Had I asserted that women who X are Y, I would most definitely be displaying misogynistic tendencies.

My whole point is that the whole ‘ick’ factor you’re displaying over what basically amounts to good marketing seems a bit silly.

Full disclosure: i’m getting a freebie at top cuts since I linked them a bit back. And I’m doing so with the full approval of, encouragement of and blessing from the wife. She seems to think I should be a bit more metrosexual and this is a decent way to start. She digs that I’m getting a manicure.

And I still don’t go to hooters, nudy bars, and am not socially inept.
