LVG’s thoughts on Cynthia Finch’s mammoth letter bomb from Wednesday afternoon:
After wading through a 26-page letter and 11 “exhibits” prepared by Cynthia Finch’s lawyer for the edification of her former boss and anyone else who cares to read the documents, I came to these conclusions:
1. This is a shot across the bow, a preview of the discrimination lawsuit waiting in the wings.
2. Finch’s “defense” can be summed up in four words - they did it too.
3. That the former senior director dares to portray herself as an advocate of ethical practices and good government through the many “recommendations” she (or her attorney) offers puts her in the running for the Biggest Cojones of the Year Award.
4. She will never admit wrongdoing.
5. Surprisingly, she has a point, at least with respect to the two Mikes, Ragsdale and Arms. Were her offenses any more egregious than theirs?
I think this just about sums it up.
I, too, have had a chance to pore over the letter, and it’s pretty darn interesting. She certainly raises some noteworthy points supporting her (rather bombastic) claims of racial bias. It does appear that the boy’s club at the top had a few more perks than she did, and it’s true that the only two people who have been publicly driven out of the mayor’s inner circle were African-American women.
I also read the letter as a warning of sorts to the mayor’s office from Finch. She seems to sprinkle tantalizing tidbits throughout the missive. For example, what’s the deal with her mention of someone using a p-card to book at motel room at the Knight’s Inn on I-75? It seems a rather random thing to toss into the letter. I mean, I’m sure she saw other people use their p-cards for all kinds of things. Why mention that specific purchase? Is it an invitation to the press to go dig that receipt up and check it out?
