You’ll never guess how little much Candace Parker will earn now that she’s become the top draft pick for the WNBA.
A whopping $44,000 a year.
But some are hoping Parker’s star power will help generate revenue to offer these hardworking professional athletes a fair wage.
The disparity in pay between the women’s and men’s games means that female athletes who reach the top of their sport lead working-class existences, while their male counterparts are set for life from the moment their names are called on draft day.
Why? Americans spend millions more on tickets to men’s games and on goods en dorsed by male athletes. TV net works reward bigger ratings for men’s sports with huge contracts.
But some in women’s basketball circles are cautiously optimistic that Candace Parker might help change that.
“There is general consensus around the world that Candace represents a special level of player,” WNBA President Donna Orender said. “I can tell you that the league certainly has received many inquiries as to when she was going to go pro, and what kind of interest did we think that she would have in working with companies.”

It’s just business ladies. People will pay to see men play basketball more often that they will pay to see women. That’s why Bruce Pearl does and always will make more than Pat Summit. It’s simply supply and demand. And before you off on me, I’m an avid Lady Vol fan and go see their games more often than the guy’s.
Lady vol’s are great. Candace Parker could beat any boy.
