10 Things You May Not Know About…Susan Richardson Williams

Posted By katie allison granju

Next up in our “10 Things” series here at Knoxville Talks Is Susan Richardson Williams, who once again this year made the list as one of Tennessee’s “Power 100,” coming in at #89:

“…quasi-member of TVA board due to Congressional failure to re-appoint her when term expired. As such, despite President Bush’s re-nomination, Williams is not at current voting on TVA matters. Steered changes to the TVA land management policy halting land sales and swaps of TVA’s remaining 293,000 acres of protected shoreline with residential developers. Recently finished 12-year run on UT system’s board. Former state commissioner and state GOP party chairman. Managed Knoxville office of The Ingram Group, a statewide public relations firm, for eight years prior to launching her own practice in 2004.”

Susan’s firm is Knoxville-based SRW & Associates, and she’s also one of our regular panelists on WBIR’s Inside Tennessee.

On to the questions:

———————————————————————-
KAG: What’s the best kept secret in Knoxville?

SRW: Are you kidding, there are no secrets in Knoxville! Actually, one of them involves a passion of mine, the genealogical expertise and information at the East Tn History Center. Many Knoxvillians don’t even know it exists because they don’t come downtown!

KAG: Describe your personal philosophy in one sentence.

SRW: It comes from my father. “Anything worth doing is worth doing right”

KAG: What kind of car do you drive and why?

SRW: Black Lexus SUV. I need an SUV because I carry two booster seats for my 5 and 7 year old grandchildren, a set of golf clubs all the time, a lot of client files, my gym clothes. I also like sitting up higher than the other cars on the road.

KAG: If you were the DJ at my party, what would be the first five songs you would play?

SRW: Great Balls of Fire by Jerry Lee Lewis, Margaritaville by Buffet, Dixie On My Mind by Hank Williams, Jr., Stand By Me and Nessun Dorma by Luciano Pavarotti. (that one’s just for me)

KAG: What’s the bravest thing you’ve ever done?

SRW: Helped my sister and Mom battle cancer.

KAG: What’s your favorite joke?

SRW: Hark, is that a Cannon I hear? (an oldie but a goodie and my absolute favorite)

KAG: What’s your guilty pleasure?

SRW: The beach.

KAG: What’s a talent few people know you have?

SRW: I’m not sure many would call it a talent but I do like to do oil paintings.

KAG: What’s the last book you finished?

SRW: Bringing Down the House by Ben Mezrich

KAG: If I handed you $1,000 to spend on something completely frivolous today, what would you buy?

SRW: A day at the spa with the works!
