I had never had fried green tomatoes until last summer when WBIR reporter LaSaundra Brown did a story on a local purveyor of this tasty delicacy. After she finished shooting the story, she brought a box of the tomatoes - still warm - back to the newsroom for everyone to sample. I truly thought I’d died and gne to heaven, these tomatoes were so tasty. The batter was light and delicious and has a savory goodness I can’t do justice with any description I might attempt. These are just…the best. You really need to go try them.
So here are directions to the best fried green tomatoes you will ever taste:
Exit Ashville Hwy, turn right.
You will make a left at the first light (Chilhowee middle is on your right on the corner)
You will be heading into the Holston Hills neighborhood…
Make a quick right at the first stop sign, that should be Holston.
Follow Holston down a ways…It’s the 3800 block of Holston Dr.
just past the Kroger, there is a big parking lot on the right
Tammy and Mike’s Fried Green Tomatoes is in that parking lot.
Their stand looks like a white bread truck.
