Have the Brangelina twins arrived?
ET Online says so, and is reporting they are both girls with surprsingly (considering their siblings’ names) traditional and pretty names…

Which is a worse sin? Divorce or gay marriage?
A WBIR.com blogger ponders:
What about divorce? I see more and more divorced men and women serving in the church and I know in Timothy it states many of the positions have to be a man of one wife. Now we get into interpretation don’t we? Is it one current wife? Let’s [...]

Will this change Knox County schools’ policy?
I’ve blogged before about Knox County schools’ policy of allowing certain religious groups special access to schoolchildren during school hours on school property under the banner of offering “character building” activities.
Now a federal judge has ruled that a Middle Tennessee school can no longer do what appears to be pretty much the same thing Knox [...]
Translating Web 2.0
Check out this hilarious list that “translates” Web 2.0 jargon into real words.
A few of my favorites:
Advertising = Conversation
Acquaintance = Friend
Average Person = Late Adopter
Egomaniac = A-List Blogger
Free Labor = Crowdsourcing

Speaking of polygamy…
…as I did in my post below earlier today, The Smoking Gun now has the incredibly creepy photos entered into evidence in the Texas polygamy-custody case that show jailed sect leader Warren Jeffs kissing and posing with two of his “wives” who happen to be about 12 years old. Warning: these photos are very disturbing.

Leslie Snow says that in all our hyperbolic debate over various “gender crises” in American public education, we’ve missed the real concern:
The final finding highlights an old crisis that has fallen out of favor since the gender wars have taken center stage. The study finds that family income is closely associated with academic performance. On [...]

I just finished a book by Carolyn Jessop, a woman who escaped a lifetime within the polygamous FLDS sect by courageously defying her abusive husband and culture, and leaving with her eight children.
The book was fascinating, and makes it clear that this religious group’s overall culture is indeed one rife with physical, mental, sexual and [...]

New book by former Knoxville reporter
Former Metro Pulse reporter Joe Tarr has written a new biography of punk goddess Patti Smith.

Men! Here’s your “Get out of seeing the Sex and the City” movie pass
Now this is funny.
I am 100% certain that my dear husband will be presenting me with his own pass when I see him next. I’m dying to see the movie. Can’t wait. He, on the other hand, informs me he’d rather chew broken glass whilst walking on a bed of nails.

David Oatney:
One of the great hopes of White Pine’s leaders is that they can prevent further needs for tax increases that would be due solely to the high cost of fuel by spurring the development of restaurants, hotels and related businesses at Interstate 81 Exit 4. There are good reasons why the city wants to [...]

Steve Phillips’ sports blog (which you should be reading every day. It’s that good) points to this great video of Lady Vols alumna and WNBA phenom Candace Parker belting out “Rocky Top” at a recent fan appearance in Los Angeles.

More proof that people who oppose gay marriage get really worked up about it
Via Rob Huddleston:
Politically, it seems that the anti-gay marriage faction has the advantage, benefiting from much greater intensity of feeling on the part of its supporters. One in four of those who are opposed to legal recognition of same-sex marriages (26%) say they will vote only for candidates for major office who share their view [...]
Global warming: the opera
For those who thought Al Gore’s climate change movie “An Inconvenient Truth” was dull, well, this probably won’t jazz it up much.
MILAN, Italy - First it was the film and the book. Now the next stop for Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” is opera.
La Scala officials say the Italian composer Giorgio Battistelli has been [...]
Fantasy gubernatorial politics
Via Stacey Campfield, I ran across this blogger’s draft game comparing the odds for various potential candidates to be Tennessee’s next governor.
Here’s what he says about Bill Haslam:
Haslam had a great Pre-Draft Camp, and suddenly played himself into early 2nd round consideration. Developing a consistent 40% three-point shot was the best thing that ever happened [...]
What would Jesus put on the nightly news?
Knox Public Defender (and blogger) Julie Auer recounts a sad tale, and asks local media to consider what we broadcast more carefully:
William had suffered a lot of adversity in the past few years after leading a fairly trouble-free life. His beloved parents died within a short time of each other, and his wife was in [...]
Weekly cuteness-blogging
Like most KnoxViews readers, I really enjoy Randy Neal’s weekly bird blogging feature, so I figured I’d be a copycat and institute a weekly photoblogging theme myself.
Since I’m a mother of four children (and an auntie to more than a dozen more), I take a lot more photos of cute little people than I do [...]
Maybe if they just went back to calling it East Town Mall…
I see that Dillard’s at East Town, errr, Knoxville Center Mall is closing.
Does anyone actually call it “Knoxville Center Mall?” Everyone seems to still call it East Town, including people who moved to Knoxville AFTER the name was officially changed.

Why can’t Knox County be more like Knoxville?
Rikki Hall compares Knox County’s political morass with the sunny skies currently shining down on the city of Knoxville, and gives credit where it’s due:
Perhaps city voters can hold a referendum next year on whether unpaid years in office count against term limits. Since Haslam has declined all but a dollar of the mayor’s salary, [...]
