<description>As I recall at one of the first board meetings when Bishop Graves was first appointed to the TVA board was that he said, "we need more transparancy" of the TVA. And after 75 years, it is about time.

Now his re-nomination to the TVA board is being held up for petty political reasons and that is a pity because the TVA has not become more transparent though they talk a lot but don't say much about what really is going on at the TVA.

Oh, they ask for input alright, before their regular board meetings. At the last meeting, only one person showed up to speak. That's indicative, I think, of TVA's "transparency". Occasionally, they send out their troops to "listen" to what people have to say. But when push comes to shove, TVA does exactly what it wants to do. No PSC inputs, no elected representative from any of the seven states in TVA's territory has the power to stop the TVA.

I have been a critic of the TVA for some time and recently have asked PIO Gil Francis a number of times for information. His answers completly stopped several weeks ago when I asked for a follow up on the TVA waste dump site in Jackson County Alabma .

This was a site where the City of Chattanooga hauled its sludge waste to abandoned TVA ponds that according to TVA, were not toxic with mercury and other harmful elements when they sold the property decades ago.

The State of Alabama wants to "clean up" the site at an estimated cost of one million dollars. And TVA disclaims any responsibility.

Gil Francis, however, does not even give me the courtesy of a "no comment" to my requests much less an update on the controversy.

If TVA ever became truly transparent, I guess, you would not be able to see them ever again.
