Julya’s blissful babymoon

WBIR meteorologist Julya Johnson is home after her midwife-assisted waterbirth at Knoxville’s Lisa Ross Birth and Women’s Center, and she’s feeling pretty blissed out:

So, I’m enjoying my “babymoon” — that’s the time after birth when you enjoy being a new family. It’s really wonderful!

David has been GREAT at being a big brother! He always wants to be near her. She was crying yesterday when she woke from her nap, and David came running in the room. He said “baby sister crying?” I said “yes, why is she crying? Do you know?” David said “she want milky! Chocolate Milky!” LOL! It was cute!

Let me tell you more about my beautiful experience at Lisa Ross Birth Center. I honestly can’t say enough good things about it. I got there on Saturday and it was such a peaceful experience. My midwife met me and my husband there, and gave me tips on easing the labor pains. I was in fairly bad pain until I stepped into the water — and then it was heavenly! I still had to cope with contractions, but the water helped ease some of the pressure. My labor was intense as it only lasted about 3 hours from start of active labor until Kate was born. I leaned heavily on my husband and Jesus for strength. It really was empowering …I remember looking into my husband’s eyes and praying together during the toughest parts. My midwife prayed with me as well, and that was truly wonderful.

As you all know, I practiced hypnobabies during pregnancy. I didn’t end up using the program at all during the birthing time though. Instead, I found it best to lean on my faith in God, and Psalm 23 kept playing in my head. It helped a lot.

Kate was born gently into the water at 4:46pm on Saturday. She didn’t cry at first, which concerned me, but actually it was just such a gentle experience for her that she didn’t need to cry. I don’t think I would want to labor without water in the future. It was great. On my last post, someone commented for me to register with the waterbirth folks and I will do that for sure. More women need access to this way of childbirth.

No offense or insensitivity intended, but If babies were meant to be born under water our early hominid ancestors would have been water dwellers rather than land roamers on the dry plains of East Africa. It must have been a blood bath for mom and baby—yuch!!!!!

Hi! No offense was taken at all, but I wanted to let you know it was actually very very clean. The water is great for easing pain. Check out http://www.waterbirth.org for more information.

Will you be returning to do the weather any time in the future?
I’m a big proponent of mom’s staying home with their children and raising them themselves, but we miss your familiar face–FYI. Thank you for your witness! HE is great and greatly to be praised!
