(Note from Katie: Yes, I know we launched the new site week before last, but in case some of you missed some of the wonderful new features we have, I thought I’d run this again. Let me know if you have any questions about using our social networking tools.)
It’s here!
After many months of listening to you to hear what you want out of your news and information online destination, we’re proud to unveil the all new WBIR.com.
Our new site is packed with all the features, tools, and interactivity you told us you were looking for, delivered 24-7.
You’ll still find that our homepage offers up-to-the-minute coverage of the very latest news in our community, delivered in the Straight from the Heart style you expect from 10News. However, we’ve made some changes we think you will appreciate.
You will notice at the very top of our homepage, that the header provides a scenic view of an East Tennessee vista. What you will also see is that the scene changes in real time with the weather outside your window.
When it’s raining, you see raindrops. When the sun is shining outdoors, it’s also shining at the top of WBIR.com.
You will also notice that the way our top news stories are laid out is bolder, with larger photos. The top stories of the day cycle slowly on the main page, and you can see any one of them at any time by mousing over the story you want.
Each news story is also time-stamped,so you can see clearly when it was last updated with new information and details.
See a video on WBIR.com you just have to share? Our new video player will allow you to e-mail it, share it on Digg and Facebook, or even embed the clip in your own blog. WBIR is available to you where you want it.
News story comments have come to be a popular part of what we do at WBIR.com, and with our new site, you can see news features in lists of “most commented” or “most read” stories of the hour.
We know you frequently visit WBIR.com to keep up with the latest weather forecast, and you will find that our brand new WBIR Online Weather Center gives you all the tools you need to know what to wear and when to travel each day.
A brand new feature at WBIR.com is our Info Central section, offering a growing collection of searchable databases on topics of real interest to you: crime, government, money, health, schools, and more.
One area of our site that got a complete makeover based on your feedback is our popular recipes section. Now, when you want to see a recipe you heard about on one of our shows, you can visit the recipes page.
As before, STYLE and Live at Five have their own sections within the site. That’s where you can find the stories you enjoyed each day, as well as movie reviews, Glitterville segments, and Web-Savvy Woman tips.
Our searchable online calendar aims to become East Tennessee’s one-stop-destination to share and discover what’s going on each day. From concerts to plays to sporting events to church functions, you can find something to do using our calendar. Plus, we have designed the calendar so that you can submit your own events to be featured on our site, and possibly on our TV programming. Just click the “submit an event” button on the calendar, and fill out the easy-to-follow online form to see your event included.
One extremely exciting addition to the new WBIR.com is our online community. It’s a fully-featured social networking tool, similar to what you may have used with sites such as Facebook, MySpace, or LinkedIn. Although you don’t have to register for our community to read or view news and information on our site, you do have to become a member of our community in order to comment on our stories, or use any of our community tools.
Just click the “Become a Member” link at the top of any page within WBIR.com, and follow the easy instructions to set up your own WBIR Community Profile, just like Robin Wilhoit and Lasaundra Brown have done.
After you set up your profile, you can create your own WBIR blog, or talk to others in our WBIR Community Forums.
Speaking of blogs, you will discover that blogs and bloggers will play an important role in what we are doing at WBIR.com these days. We have Knoxville Talks, our one-stop-shop for the latest news and talk from all over the community, as well as specialty blogs on parenting and midlife. We’ll be adding new featured blogs all the time, so keep checking our blogs section regularly.

A man asked me how he should start a blog last week. I pointed him to your site and told him to start there. You can send my commission check now.
