Don’t blame the media
Well, it looks like plans for a controversial GLBT/clothing optional resort in Roane County are dead, and the developer is saying “media explotation” played a part in killing the deal.
WBIR reporter Anthony Welsch, who covered the story, posts on his blog this morning that the developer may be looking for fault in the wrong place:
I spoke with Gary Foster tonight. He’s the developer that wanted to bring Rosebud Lodge to Roane County. He didn’t have many good things to say about the television stations and newspapers down here. I take offense to that. Most of the locals we interviewed didn’t have anything good to say about his campground. I really feel like Roane County was fired up before the media even got wind of the story.
I don’t understand is how we can be accused of “exploiting” his campground. His original website clearly marketed toward the GLBT community, there were pictures of same-sex couples kissing, sharing a bath, and embracing one another. That’s fine, I don’t think it’s my job to pass any sort of judgement or have any opinion if that’s right/wrong. The website has gone from promoting a “clothing optional” excursion to Foster now saying, “it would be clothing optional maybe, near pool areas and sunbathing spots.” It’s his website, under his complete control. Had we not reported his original website plans, are we ignoring a piece of the truth?
