My heart goes out to al who have been laid off. I'm trying to get something started at my church right now to get laid off workers, as well as single parents and those on a "fixed" income, some assistance. The church was designed to help those in need, and while I agree that most churches haven't stepped up and come through for those in need, some are, and I hope to play a part in that. Like I said, it is the church's place to help, not the government's. Republicans are likely just trying to prevent more abuse of the system, which hurts us all. I urge all of you who belong to a church and practice your faith to do as Jesus taught: "Inasmuch as you have done it unto the least of these my brothers, you have done it unto Me." Matthew 25:40

Layoffs arent the only, thing. They put a freeze on hiring, raises, and promotions .They have canceled the July 4th party,Christmas party and ended the Christmas bonus.Next year the insurance premiums will also be going up.In order to get your severence package you were required to sign papers saying you wouldn't sue or make any statements against the company. There also was no rhyme or reason to the layoffs.I knew of people that were the 5 plus years and people that just started getting the boot.

As a former employee of JTV I can tell you that you could see this coming. In short JTV left their foundational principles during this era of greed. The founders who are believers in the faith have not had the oversight they once had. The only way to see a turnaround now is through prayer and repentence.

It is an awful thing to see responsible and hardworking people lose their jobs, especially in bad economic times like these. Our hearts go out to all of them. I hope that their needs will be made known to all of us so we can help in any way that we can. If a recent bill in Congress is not vetoed by George Bush (as he has promised), they would have access to one year of unemployment insurance benefits rather than the current 26 weeks of benefits. However, as all of the far right Republicans who rule now emphasize repeatedly, it is ideologically and philosophically inappropriate for the government to render assistance to anyone who is in need. In other words, it would be more appropriate for these workers to just crawl off under some damp rock somewhere and die of starvation. And remember, the religious right agrees with them. I wonder what Jesus would say about that?
