The Candy Factory auction

Moving from a West Knox ‘burb to a downtown loft, this blogger shares his account of what it was like the day he snagged his Candy Factory loft:
One fifty….one fifty one…I got one fifty one…can I get one fifty two…. I was spending money like the federal government. A thousand dollars every twenty seconds, I had never been to an auction before, had not an idea what to expect but I never expected an auction. People yelling, hands going up and then down, the auctioneer rattling off dollars like a spoiled teenage daughter but there I was in the thick of it. I had planned for this and was determined to own a loft at the Candy Factory in downtown Knoxville. Can I get one fifty three…..Can I get one sixty. The bid had reach one sixty in about four minutes, one sixty meant the bid was now at one hundred and sixty thousand dollars. My hand went up in the air again…I got one sixty, can I get one sixty two. My stomach in knots, my hand going up again and again, this was battle at a thousand dollars a shot. The battle raged, four bidders, then three, then finally just two of us. One eighty…can I get one eighty one….a long pause…silence. I was at one eighty would my adversary bid one eighty one. I got one eighty one….that answers that. Then I said it out loud for all to hear…ONE EIGHTY ONE FIVE…. I am not the Fed it has to end somewhere. Silence….a very long silence…one eighty one five…can I get one eighty two….nothing…longer silence from the crowd….one eighty one…once…twice…SOLD I yelled. SOLD came back.I did it, I won, I am now moving to downtown Knoxville from my sanctuary of West Knoxville.
