A little morning baseball humor

Steve Phillips recounts:

I once interviewed native Tennessean and Major League umpire Chuck Meriwether on a radio show. The most memorable parts of our conversation were his dislike for the “QuesTec” computer system used to critique umpires performance in calling balls and strikes; and his interactions over the years with fans.

Chuck relayed a story of a game in Chicago when he’d made a controversial call at third base. A woman in the stands kept yelling, “Meriwether, if I was married to you, I’d poison your food.” After she’d yelled several times, Chuck turned around and yelled back, “And if I was married to you, I’d eat it.”
