More proof that people who oppose gay marriage get really worked up about it

Via Rob Huddleston:

Politically, it seems that the anti-gay marriage faction has the advantage, benefiting from much greater intensity of feeling on the part of its supporters. One in four of those who are opposed to legal recognition of same-sex marriages (26%) say they will vote only for candidates for major office who share their view on the issue. By contrast, only 2% of those who favor making same-sex marriage legal define themselves as one- issue voters on the subject.

It’s astonishing to me that in a time when the nation is at war, and the economy is tanking, and many of our friends and neighbors are without health care, so many people are willing to define their politics by this incredibly narrow issue.

  1. It doesn’t surprise me. They are probably the same voters who thought four more years of GWB was a good idea.

I call it the “Look at this, it’s bright and shiny” diversionary tactics. I also agree with Frank, GWB for four more years back in the day.
The guy everyone wanted to have a beer with.
    **sigh**

But see, the reason the economy is tanking and people don’t have health care is because we have failed to protect the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman, and in fact that’s what we’re over there in Iraq fighting to protect. Get with the program and quit being subversive.

    R. Neal. I have another theory about why the economy is tanking and people don’t have health care. God just might be fed up with Christian fundamentalist pharisees, T.V. preachers like John Hagee, their abandonment of the poor, their abandonment of his creation, and their abandonment of “simple shepherd” churches to build the “bigger barns” we call mega-churches. The double-edged sword cuts both ways.
