Panacea? No. Part of the answer? Absolsutely. Let’s remember that nuclear power is dependable and with US technology has been incredibly safe. Even with technology of 40 years ago, no one was hurt at Three Mile Island. And the problem was with one reactor…the other at TMI continues to operate to do this day. Environmetally clean, no carbon emissions…nuclear is definitely part of meeting our energy demands for the forseeable future. We’re a long way from being able to get huge amounts of solar, although hopefully that day is coming. We sure as heck need to get off oil.
Here, here Mike.
France is now being supplied 80% of their power needs from nuclear power plants with a surplus they export to Britain, Germany and Italy.
All the studies I read say we can get a maximum of 15% of our energy needs from solar and wind which is a huge jump from the 3% we’re generating now.
