Knoxville needs a new slogan
That’s what the folks over at the blog KtownLowDown think, and they are hosting a slogan contest to try to come up with one:
What should be Knoxville’s new slogan?
And I’m not talking about some visitor center, brochure fronting, ad campaign slogan. I am talking about the kind of slogan that only us locals [...]
Melungeons Unite!
Melungeons will be gathering at LMU in Harrogate this weekend for a family reunion (and no, I don’t mean Rus Harper’s band):
The gathering will begin with an informal “Melungeon Mixer” on Thursday evening, June 26th, offering an opportunity for socializing and informal sharing. On Friday and Saturday, June 27th and 28th, MHA will hold two [...]

Ashley Capps says a little something about Kanye West
AC Entertainment’s Ashley Capps (a great guy, in case you don’t know him, and a huge asset to everything-arts in Knoxville) had this to say about the whole Kanye West Bonnaroo rant: “If you only knew the half of it…but my lips are sealed.”

State legislators who blog
Several Tennessee lawmakers - including our good pal Stacey Campfield- are spotlighted in this Stateline piece on blogging legislators.
The story mentions some of the more entertaining blog posts from lawmakers around the country, includng Campfield’s online form letter to “hillbilly loser” constituents.

Emily
Russell Biven remembers Emily tonight.
It was certainly a sad day in our newsroom on Wednesday.
God bless the Barger family, and especially Emily’s two sisters, Blair and Megan.

Dwight Van de Vate goes hyperlocal
The Mayor’s spokesman took his case directly to the folks at home via Knox Views today.
No pesky MSM filter to get in the way.
I’ll be interested to see the comments that develop.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office already uses their own Web site as a stand-alone news source, including (while he was in office) publishing virtual [...]
Knoxville’s air service “at risk”
That’s what a group called the “Business Travel Coalition” says in a new report.
The group lists 100 airports around the nation it believes are in peril of losing commercial air service due to high fuel prices. McGhee Tyson made the list, as did the Chattanooga and Tri-cities airports.

A terrible loss
All of us at WBIR are in mourning tonight. Our friend and co-worker, Brian Barger, lost his beautiful little girl Emily to cancer earlier in the evening. Emily was at Children’s Hospital, and fought a brave battle for over a year.
Please keep the Brian and Misty Barger and their other two young daughters in [...]
