jesse helms was a real American patriot who faught against the the communist traitors in congress.any time i hear a kennedy or red nancy having a fit over mr. helms i felt uplifted and knew jesse was right.my sympathies go out to his family this is a great man who will be missed by all free Americans.

  2. Jesse Helms was a racist bigot who left a legacy of hatred in this country. Buh-bye.

  3. I was going to comment, but Southern Beale summed it up for me pretty well.

are you two now or have you ever been a member the communist party or one of it’s front groups?

I intend to miss him every bit as much as I miss Jerry Falwell.

Amazing how little class folks on one side of the aisle have when someone on the other side dies. That goes for right-wingers who revel in the death of someone on the left, such as when Paul Wellstone died. This is why political discussions get more and more disgusting by the day.

the difference is wellstone was a commie traitor just like the democrats patron saint alger hiss while mr helms was an american patriot.

Well. I think the anonymity provided by the Internet has coarsened political discourse in this country. However, just stepping back and looking at it, I think the extreme right wing in this country is responsible for most of the discord. At some point, they quit being what the British call the “loyal opposition” and began to see anyone who disagrees with them as a threat to humanity that needs to be eliminated (not in the political sense but in the bullet in the head sense). Just speaking as an everyday citizen, I get so damned tired of being accused of being a communist every time I contribute used clothing to Goodwill. People like Bruce seem to be angry enough to kill, and they indice similar anger in other people. I do not see anything healthy about that at all—not for individuals or American society in general. However, with that said (and having been made very angry by reading the posts above), I have to say in all honesty that I am glad that Jesse Helms has departed. He was all of the negative things stated above, and he was bad for America. Over the weekend, I noted that James Dobson is 72 years old now. He should be checking out pretty soon, and the world will be a better place for it.
