Bad Behavior has blocked 787 access attempts in the last 7 days.
Through students and overhearing a police officer talking while I was at piolt I understand that a black boy shot a mexican boy after they had a verbal disagreement. This is only hearsay and I do not know this to be 100% true. Also why is Halls High School still under lockdown?
The shooting victim died at the hospital. This is insane!
It was a young white male that was shot. Identity of the shooter has not been given. The shooter has already gotten a lawyer…Mark Stephens public defender.
why is there so much violent crime in knoxville?
This is unbelievable that this is happening in our Knoxville we have always felt so safe living in this area .My prayers are with the family of this young boy (life was to short for him) also for the family of the person who did this horrible thing I’m sure his family is devisated.also I pray for the teachers and students that are going through this as a Mother and Grandmother Who has Grand children in school In Halls and in Union County it just overwhelms me that this is happening when we think this is happening in our schools and we can’t seem to find the answers to fix this happening again , and where next? Let us unite and search for answers are children are worth it and deserve to be safe in our schools
We don’t have (as a rule) problems like this in East Tennessee. I say that because Nashville and Memphis are totally different stories. Knoxville is a medium-sized city that has somehow escaped the violence that has become pervasive in the last decade. Yes children are worth it, but how do we fix it Byrd? My bet is that the shooter (Jamil) has a baby-daddy (thanx Michelle Obama) not a father, has a mother, “Onts” (aunts) and a few grandmothers. My point: a woman cannot easily make a well-balanced man out of a boy. Get fathers back into the black family (and the shooter is black, the victim white; by the way, why is this not a hate-crime?) and maybe they’ll begin to have a chance, but government cannot make black men responsible fathers that marry their baby-mammas and turn the whole experience into what us old-fashioned folks called “starting a family”. At least the Latinos have family going for them.
I am a student at Central High School, and I never thought that anything like this would ever happen here. For the most part as students we think of central to be a safe place. It just shows that things like this can happen anywhere. My prayers go out to Ryan McDonald and his family. As for Jamar Siler may God be with you.
I have a son who is a freshman this year at Central, we had received a letter before school started that Central had not met the guidelines for no child left behind and last year’s test scores were low. The letter gave us the option to send him to any school in the Knoxville districted. We have lived in Fountain City for 10 years and our son started School at Fountain City Elementary and went on to Gresham Middle along the way he has made some of the best friends that we as parents could hope our child could make. Our main decision for allowing him to continue in this school system go on to Central was because of the wonderful network of good students that he has surrounded himself with. They respect each other and their teachers. I have ask my son on several occasions in these first 2 weeks if he has seen any fights or drugs within the school and his reply has always been no. He stated, in all of the classes he has as a freshman the students respect and pay attention in class. His grades have been higher than ever and I see him turning into a responsible you man. While talking to some parents after the game last night, I was informed by parents of some of the seniors a much different story. One child’s mother stated that her daughter complained of students disrespecting the teachers throwing spit-balls directly at the teachers and sleeping through most of the classes. If a child is sleeping through most of his classes you would think that the teachers would advise him to the guidance counselor to see if something is wrong, then she could ask questions like, why are you not getting enough rest at home? Our teachers must learn to be proactive. As a parent I do not want my child to be put into a position to sit in class and be subject to such disrespect for the teachers and the school. But most of all I do not know why things like this are being tolerated in this school at this level. Are the teachers not being supported? Or do they really not care? If a teacher is allowing things like this to go on in his or her class room, she is not only disrespecting herself but also our children. It is the teacher’s responsibility to make us as parents aware of things like this. Parents are responsible for their child’s actions but what good will it do me to teach my son the values of respect if he see things like this in class being tolerated by the school. If he speaks up and stands up for a teacher who does not respect herself and allows things like this to happen, then the disrespect will be guided toward him and then who will protect him? If the school officials do not support the teachers than my question is are they supporting our students? How will he and the other students that care about their education actually learn anything in class? My fear is if my child continues at Central, over the next 4 years will his attendance at this school take away everything I have taught him as a parent. I know from experience most of the student who start at Central start with the structure they have been taught at the other schools they have attended leading up to HS. I fear the tragedy that has struck our school and the life that was lost is a result of the teachers and staff at central tolerating such acts of disrespect in the class rooms and within the school. I am very upset with the school and feel that parents at this school must take a stand and do whatever they can to make a difference. I will not allow my sons values to be change or influenced by Teachers, students, and staff at Central High School. If any of the teachers at Central are reading this and you know of the classes that allow things like this to occur I also hold you responsible and challenge you to make a difference. As a parent I challenge all other parents of these students and future students who are in the surrounding Elementary and Middle school to do everything we can to make a difference. Ask questions demand better test scores. When our test scores are higher we will know that our teachers our making our students listen and respect them in class. Students at Central I also challenge you to make this a better school today and for future students, Don’t be afraid to reports acts of violence to your teachers and if they don’t care then go to your principal keep going until you make a change and can sit in class and actually gain something from it. Look toward your future and help those that are less fortunate than you. Be active in your schools programs. If you fell the teachers don’t care than try even harder to show them how much you care.
im a tudent at gresham middle and it was terrifing
John McCain’s speech in Dayton, Ohio, was repeated on The New York Times. The Arizona senator appears to be in a fighting mode stating, “I’m an American. And I choose to fight. Don’t give up hope. Be strong. Have courage. And fight.” Through his words, he aims to fight for what’s right for America, for justice and opportunity, for the children. McCain makes sure not to ignore the economic concerns that are affecting every individual in the country and others, with items like Issue 5 on the agenda for Ohio voters. He is not hesitant to point out the “Barack the Re-distributor” will spread the wealth and not put policies in place that will create more jobs and opportunities for the nation. While Obama believes taxes are too low, McCain says the spending which seemed normal during the Bush administration is too high. As our country calls out for an economic resolution, McCain does not focus on payday loans as much as Obama. Obama’s promise to bail out Wall Street bankers with $750 billion of taxpayers’ money will not only put a strain on the industry, but many Americans as well. McCain’s ultimate plan for the economy is to “get it out of the ditch and back in the lead.” He feels this will enable Americans to rest easy, knowing they will pass on a better legacy to their children and grandchildren.
