UPDATE: State Attorney General enters stage left…
Just got word the State Attorney General’s Office is taking over the investigation into Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale’s office.
Stay tuned for updates and a copy of the letter county commissioners received from DAG Randy Nichols this morning.
Copy of the letter can be found here. The letter also indicates the attorney general’s office will be [...]
Bars and tone…
…or in non-TV speak, please stand by. As we re-align our resources (or in plain English, figure out what’n heck we’re doing), we’ll be bringing you new content shortly.
In the meantime, keep an eye on this space for semi-regular posts of general interest, now with 20% less political savvy than Ms. Granju, but somewhere in [...]
See you around, K-town
Well, this is it - my last week with WBIR, and my final post as your blogmistress for Knoxville Talks.
Knoxville Talks has really been a personal labor of love for me. Since launching it at the beginning of 2008, I’ve published thousands of blog posts, and we’ve had about half-a-million page views. That’s evidence to [...]
Big change for Knoxville’s Mission District
According to Bob Whetsel, Knox Area Rescue Ministries Director Burt Rosen today posted this message on the 5th & Broadway Yahoo group:
Burt Rosen August 4, 2008
Dear 5th and Broadway Neighbors,
Having listened to your concerns and feedback with regard to the
number of people on Broadway in front of KARM and the Salvation Army,
we have been looking [...]
I guess he did get to know me pretty well over the past 4 years…
My WBIR boss, Bill Shory to me on my new Blackberry, after I told him I had chosen it over the iPhone: “You’ll break it or lose it within a week, so you’ll definitely feel better about breaking or losing that over the iPhone”

PHOTOBLOGGING: Big sister and little sister at the lake
Yes, these are my two girls, ages 12 months and almost 13-years-old. Amazingly, this photo was taken with a camera-phone. In the photo, the girls are hanging out on the hammock at our friends T and K’s wonderful lake house in South Knoxville.

But…but….WE are the “Vols!”
Apparently, the “Volunteer State” is no longer living up to the nickname: apparently, we rank 39th among states in volunteering.

Pot, meet kettle
So Shelbyville Times Gazette reporter Brian Mosely is now “questioning the objectivity” of a blogger who is criticizing his coverage of the Muslim immigrant population in Bedford County.
First of all, bloggers don’t have to be objective. Second of all, this is pretty ironic, coming from a guy who - as a straight news reporter [...]
Something both Lumpy Lambert and Mark Harmon can agree on
From the Knox County Commission Online Forum:
Mark Harmon on Mon Aug 04, 2008 9:16 am
I have written the the commission office asking this item below be forwarded to the Agenda Committee as a resolution. I also ask we invite Rev. Chris Buice of the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church to give the invocation.

Be it resolved [...]

Nowadays, a free SUV and gas make for a pretty sweet benefit
Larry Van Guilder questions Knox County’s take-home car policy, which I predict will be the next frontier in investigative reporting on county spending.
Knox County government’s top accountant, John Troyer, is one of 151 drivers of county-owned take-home vehicles, without taking into account sheriff’s vehicles. Most are less than fuel-efficient at a time of rising gas [...]
Quote of the weekend
The News Sentinel quotes TVUUC minister, Rev. Chris Buice, speaking during yesterday’s service, only one week after the shooting that killed two and injured eight:
Noting the congregants who wrestled Adkisson to the ground during last week’s attack, Buice injected some humor into his comments.
“Reports tell us he thought liberals were soft on terror,” Buice said. [...]

Muslims deserve a day off, too
The county in which I grew up - Bedford County in Middle Tennessee - is home to a large and growing population of Muslim Somali immigrants. Many of them are employed at the local Tyson chicken processing plant.
And I can just imagine the imminent uproar over this just-released story indicating that, in place of [...]

No need to reinvent the wheel
This post from the Online Journalism Blog takes up an issue that I champion very often: there are lots of great, free/very cheap third party options out there that newspapers and TV station websites could be using.
Quietly, while millions have been spent on the recent relaunch, someone at The Guardian has been savvy enough to [...]

So one week from today will be my last with WBIR, and as your salon directress here at Knoxville Talks.
You will probably notice that more and more of my blogging will start migrating over to my personal blog, until such time as I launch something new, which I certainly will.
