Fourth and Gill vs. Farragut: who pays more toward our schools?

katie allison granju -

Matt Edens argues (in addressing a blog post from Brian Hornback), that folks living in the city’s revitalized city neighborhoods are likely paying more than their share of taxes toward the stellar schools that exist far outside those same neighborhoods:
At least Hornback doesn’t trot out the tired old “yes, but folks in Farragut pay more [...]

The scene of the crime - now online

katie allison granju -

Brian Hornback called it a “crime scene,” but I call it the first-ever episiode of the weekly WBIR show Inside Tennessee available online. My fellow producer, Jake Jost and I -along with anchor John Becker -are very pleased to finally be making the show available on the Interwebs each week.
So here you go. This [...]

GOP-on-GOP vitriol

Internal strife within the Knox County GOP ranks hits the local blogsophere:

So Brian Hornback lets loose with the poison that he normally saves for private conversations. He calls me a liar, but doesn’t say what I am lying about. He calls me a lawyer, as if that is going to hurt my feelings. He says [...]

Whither Brian Hornback?

Sandra Clark questions why local GOP party officials left controversial former chairman, and local blogger Brian Hornback out of a recent party dispatch:

A letter inviting GOP precinct leaders to a May 3 breakfast at Wright’s Cafeteria (9-11 a.m.) in support of Judge McGee is signed by the current Republican county chair and five former chairs: [...]

Knox County Republicans packing heat at meetings?

katie allison granju -

Sounds like that’s what former county GOP chairman Brian Hornback may be suggesting:
The West Knox Republican Club will meet tonight at the Cedar Bluff Middle School Library at 7:00 p.m. There will be no dining, so eat before you come.
The program will our Knox County Commissioners discussing the Charter Amedments.
Republicans believe in our right to [...]

Conspiracy theories

Brian Hornback’s blog seems to have moved on from continually knocling Knox County School Board member Karen Carson to continually knocking various members of the Haslam family for their alleged iron-fisted grip on all local government and media.

UPDATE: Brian Hornback hearts Haslams

katie allison granju -

On KnoxBlab yesterday, someone identifying himself as “Brian’s Blog” (that’s the handle for former Knox County GOP Chair Brian Hornback’s blog) expressed some “issues” with alleged Haslam family control of local media and school board members.
To wit:
The Brians Blog Team members have followed this for a long time. There is no reason that Haslam should [...]

No wonder so many people applied to be Knox County School Superintendent

katie allison granju -

Brian Hornback says the salary is much too high:
Horry County, South Carolina and Knox County, TN are competing for one guy, Brian Bingelli. Horry County, South Carolina’s revenue is $498 million dollars and their Superintendent salary range is $200,000. Knox County School’s revenue is around $352 million and their Superintendent salary range is $240,000.

Newsflash: Hornback won’t be voting for Mike Padgett

katie allison granju -

Shockingly, Brian Hornback apparently won’t be supporting Mike Padgett for U.S. Senate.
Heads up to the Tennessee Republican Party. Mike Padgett ignored the will of the citizens of Knox County when he ran for re-election in 2006 with a total disregard for the term limit provision of the Charter. Call Knox County and ask for a [...]

UPDATED: Brian Hornback accuses school board chair of ethics violation
