A friend tells me that Knox County Commissioner Lumpy Lambert called in to the Hallerin Hill show this morning in response to Hill’s interview with an official of the city of Birmingham, which has just instituted a 4-day workweek.
My friend says Lambert expressed a lot of support for the idea of making the same change [...]

No more defending Lumpy

katie allison granju -

Betty Bean says she’s pretty much had it with Lumpy Lambert:
Lambert thinks he is funny, and once upon a time, so did I.
I wrote funny Lumpy Lambert stories and defended funny Lumpy Lambert antics. But that was then, and those days are pretty embarrassing to look back on now, after so many months of displays [...]

Who needs a Downtown planetarium when you’ve got County Commission?

katie allison granju -

A novel idea:
The county commission meetings and the regular goings on could be marketed by the chamber as a destination tourist attraction, possibly filling up downtown hotels, downtown restaurants, and filling the coffers of other downtown establishments.
Marketers could sell T-shirts and related accessories, much like the vendors do at DisneyWorld and at NASCAR races. Fans [...]

Flashback: Knoxville politicians in the national press

katie allison granju -

It’s been noted that today’s NYT coverage of Lumpy Lambert’s dust-up with Mark Harmon harkens back to the 1956 issue of LIFE Magazine, which featured this photo of a fist fight between Mayor Cas Walker and another Knoxville city councilman.

I am catching up this morning on what happened at last night’s commission meeting, and this caught my eye:

Did he really say this? And are there really local Druids about?
