Something both Lumpy Lambert and Mark Harmon can agree on
From the Knox County Commission Online Forum:
Mark Harmon on Mon Aug 04, 2008 9:16 am
I have written the the commission office asking this item below be forwarded to the Agenda Committee as a resolution. I also ask we invite Rev. Chris Buice of the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church to give the invocation.
Resolution
Be it resolved [...]
Four day workweek for Knox County employees?
A friend tells me that Knox County Commissioner Lumpy Lambert called in to the Hallerin Hill show this morning in response to Hill’s interview with an official of the city of Birmingham, which has just instituted a 4-day workweek.
My friend says Lambert expressed a lot of support for the idea of making the same change [...]
KNS and the charter petition
A conversation is underway over at KnoxBlab on the decsion by the Knoxville News Sentinel to throw its explict support behind the Knox County charter petition efforts.
Editor Jack McElroy says:
This Wednesday, the News Sentinel will take the unusual step of publishing a pair of petitions, the ones being circulated by Knox Charter Petition to change [...]
10 Things You May Not Know About…Lumpy Lambert
Knox County Commissioner Greg “Lumpy” Lambert is one of only a few local politicians in recent years to find himself quoted in the New York Times.
However, he’s no stranger to national publicity; he was the subject of major news coverage back in 2000 when he offered his “Buy a car, get a gun” promotion [...]

No more defending Lumpy
Betty Bean says she’s pretty much had it with Lumpy Lambert:
Lambert thinks he is funny, and once upon a time, so did I.
I wrote funny Lumpy Lambert stories and defended funny Lumpy Lambert antics. But that was then, and those days are pretty embarrassing to look back on now, after so many months of displays [...]
Who needs a Downtown planetarium when you’ve got County Commission?
A novel idea:
The county commission meetings and the regular goings on could be marketed by the chamber as a destination tourist attraction, possibly filling up downtown hotels, downtown restaurants, and filling the coffers of other downtown establishments.
Marketers could sell T-shirts and related accessories, much like the vendors do at DisneyWorld and at NASCAR races. Fans [...]
Proud to be a “university twit”
As immortalized in the NYT piece detailing the dramas of Knox County Commission meetings, you, too can now be the owner of a “University Twit” t-shirt..
The background:
And here was Commissioner Greg Lambert, better known as Lumpy. A used-car salesman who won national attention years ago for a “Buy a Car Get a Gun” promotion, he [...]

Over at The House of Flying Monkeys, she’s compiled a list of proposed questions:
All I can say is that Scoobie needs to be very glad that I wasn’t at that Forum this weekend. While I’m sure that every flagwaving Elephant was overjoyed to have ole Scoob defending the basic tenets of the Grand Old [...]
Frank Cagle takes Lumpy Lambert to the woodshed
Cagle isn’t pulling any punches in his latest Metro Pulse column:
Herewith, some free advice:
Forget getting the media to like you. It ain’t gonna happen. Be content that they will seek you out for quotes. You will continue to see your name in the paper and your face on the evening news. Usually it will not [...]
Flashback: Knoxville politicians in the national press
It’s been noted that today’s NYT coverage of Lumpy Lambert’s dust-up with Mark Harmon harkens back to the 1956 issue of LIFE Magazine, which featured this photo of a fist fight between Mayor Cas Walker and another Knoxville city councilman.
(Were you aware that there’s a Cas Walker My Space page?)

I am catching up this morning on what happened at last night’s commission meeting, and this caught my eye:
When the discussion turned to the issue of county employees serving on County Commission, Commissioner Mark Harmon proposed letting the people decide or failing that a common sense approach regarding commissioners voting on their own salaries and [...]
Some of his best friends are Druids?
Someone who watched the whole Knox County Commission meeting last night tells me that Commissioner Lambert said that the debates over the “God Resolution” brought him into contact with all kinds of new friends, including some local Druids.
Did he really say this? And are there really local Druids about?
