Fred Thompson headed back to Hollywood
He’s making steps in that direction:
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - After a failed run for president, Fred Thompson is getting back to pretending to be commander in chief. Hollywood’s high-powered William Morris Agency announced this week that it has signed the actor/politician, signaling a return to the screen for the former senator from Tennessee.

Jonah Goldberg compares Romney’s “Yep, I’m Mormon speech” to Obama’s “Yep, my pastor has said some really bizarre stuff” speech:
Romney’s “Mormonism” speech largely change the subject in the same way Obama’s did. Romney in effect said that he had nothing to apologize for — despite concerns about his faith — because freedom of religion [...]

That’s what Bob Krumm is asking:
How very ironic and sad that Evangelical Christians who are the biggest victims of religious intolerance in America–at least within the media and popular political culture–are themselves among the perpetrators of religious intolerance against Mormons. Heck, they’re even on the same side of nearly every political issue with you. [...]
Why Romney is “suspending” rather than ending his campaign
CNN explains:
“A candidate may “suspend” his or her campaign rather than dropping out,
and technically remain a candidate. In this case, he or she is entitled
to keep any statewide pledged delegates as well as their district-level
delegates.”

You’d think they would have a special “tip person” on staff
These stories of candidates failing to leave tips after campaigning in local restaurants are so frequent that I can’t believe the candidates’ advance teams don’t have someone solely in charge of making sure a generous tip is left in an especially showy way.

High priest of TN conservatives gives the nod to McCain (yes, you read that right)
Lloyd Daugherty has endorsed McCain
The selection of candidates this year provides no clear choice for conservatives. If you believe the primary job of the president is to be the spiritual leader for the Country, then Mike Huckabee deserves your consideration. If you feel America needs a successful businessman to manage the economy, then Mitt Romney [...]

That’s what David Oatney thinks:
I have a tremendous amount of personal respect for Howard Baker-it is hard not to admire the man who did more than anyone else in the modern era to bring the GOP to Statewide electability here. He also served as President Reagan’s Chief of Staff, and there are very few of [...]
Buncha state legislators to announce for Romney
Via Volunteer Voters:
Mitt Romney’s older brother, Scott Romney, will be in attendance at a press conference today at Legislative Plaza Room 30 where it has been reported that no less than one dozen legislators will be endorsing Mitt Romney for President.
VolunteerVoters.com has been able to get a hold of some of the names before the [...]
American candidates as transformers
No, no, not the kind that turn into giant, battling robots.
This kind:
We live in a culture of amazing personal transfigurations, a culture run by Oprah Winfrey and the latest James Frey, in which each story of personal pain and degradation ends with a caterpillar-to-butterfly blossoming into spiritual fulfillment. That these stories are simplistic and superficial [...]
Haslam the elder raising money for Romney
Via the Nashville Post Jimmy Haslam is among a list of top GOP donors joining Nashville businessman Ted Welch’s fundraising efforts on behalf of Mitt Romney.
On Monday, Welch is hosting a $1,000-per-attendee event featuring Romney’s brother, Scott Romney at the Nashville law firm Waller, Lansden, Dortch & Davis.
Dee and Jimmy Haslam are listed as members [...]
A double standard when it comes to Huckabee and Romney’s religious views?
Huckabee takes a lot of questions about his unapologetically literalist Christian views, including some very specific ones.
Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has been called upon to defend another Bible passage — the one about wives submitting to their husbands.
At Thursday night’s Fox News debate in South Carolina, Huckabee explained that the passage from the [...]
East Tennessee blogs New Hampshire
From the Tennessee blogosphere this morning:
VOLuntarily Conservative (who took time away from his brand new baby to blog!) says:
If - and I said if - Romney wins Michigan by a decent margin with McCain second, South Carolina becomes an elimination match for Fred Thompson and Mike Huckabee. Only one of those candidates is walking out [...]
